The Bottomline on Gluten-Free Skincare & Cosmetics

To be gluten-free, or not to be? Is the cosmetic question.

I have recently heard that gluten-free makeup and lotion should be used by those of us with Celiac Disease.  I was diagnosed a year ago, and this is the first I’ve heard of it.  Is it true?  Or is that going overboard?

Little Aussie’s Answer:

As most personal health and care goes, it depends on who you are and what are your needs. To be mindful of yourself is certainly most important! Then, you can pretty much guess that most generic goods with a long list of chemicals isn’t going to be the best for you either. But specifically, that it’s gluten free…The Celiac Diva provides some good advice, as well as The Gluten Free Dietician. Understanding your sensitivity level is important.

The bottom line we’ve learned: the products you could likely ingest (mouthwash, toothpaste, lipstick, etc) are best to use gluten-free if you have Celiac Disease or gluten sensitivities. Other externally used products don’t pose such a risk.
